Detailed Information:

Peruvian Myrrh, Commiphora Myrrha, has a warm earthy, woodsy fragrance, with slight balsamic undertones. Myrrh is typically blended with frankincense, pricley pear, peruvian copal and others. It has been used through out the ages as an ingredient in incense, perfumes, etc., and in the holy oil of the Jews and the Kyphi of the Egypt for embalming and fumigations.

Burning myrrh is believed to send evil spirits away. It purifies ritual tools, as does frankincense or a mixture of the two and is believed to bring good fortune and money. Myrrh fortifies the nerves and emotions. It replaces feelings of apathy, weakness and lack of initiative with motivation, power and strength. Myrrh provides the clarity, focus and strength to pull through troubled times. Its cooling and calming effect subdues angry or inflamed emotional states. The famous "Earth Connection" incense used since antiquity provides a stable, nurturing and protective scent for the opening of your inner temple.

Origin Information:

Common myrrh, Commiphora myrrha, or gum myrrh, is a small, very piney tree, about 16 feet tall, in the Burseraceae family with light bark and knotted branches, few leaves and small white flowers. It thrives in thin soil, primarily in areas with limestone. It is one of the primary trees used in the production of myrrh, a resin made from dried tree sap. The tree is native to Oman and Yemen, and to Africa. Our oil comes from trees grown in Somalia. When the bark is cut, the gum resin exudes as a pale yellow liquid, which dries into reddish-brown lumps the size of a walnut from which the oil is distilled.
