    A rustic and exceptional carved mortar and pestle set hand crafted in Peru.  This piece comes to us from the home of a private collector. A serpent in scaley skin circles the flat upper rim.  The carved pestle also shows the individual scales.  The bowl has two handles protruding from either side and a carved jaguar's head protrudes from the front, mouth open and baring his teeth. Shamans use these to grind resin incense for sprinkling onto charcoal or for preparations of medicaments used in ceremony or healings.
