The Buddha is draped in an antique red robe falling gracefully about his crossed legs. Mosaic pink and green glasswork and tiny mirrors on the robe contrast superbly with the black finish of the statue. Buddha's left hand facing upward, lies in his lap in Dhyana (meditation) Mudra. His right hand hangs over his knee, fingertips pointing to the ground in Bhumisparsha Mudra. This mudra symbolizes enlightenment, as well as steadfastness as it is associated with subduing the daemon Mara. Hand-finished, minor variations and imperfections add to the artistic character of each piece.

    Intriguing Chinese carving appearing to consist of a bird. Resembling carvings attributed to the Hongshan culture, this carving includes an ox-nose loophole, i.e., a double hole resembling the nostrils of an ox, indicating that it was attached to clothing as pendant. Some scholars believed some of the carvings were adornments attached to the cloth of a shaman's ritual vestments. Some Hongshan jade animals figures were believed to possess ...mystical powers.
