This mestana is hand woven of colorful yarns and features hand applied rainbow binding on all four edges with a diamond pattern design in the central bands and parallelograms representing the flow of water. Edges are finished with the distinctive nawi awapa edging or eye border, which is believed to have special protective qualities. To the Inca, this eye represents a place of generation, like a seed in a furrow or a sprout on a potato.

From the Chincheros of the high Andes mountains of Peru.

This special edition 'Alto-Relievo' style set of 7 Peruvian Chumpi Stones is associated with the mountains in the Sacred Valley near Cusco in Peru. Alto-Relievo or high-relief, is a classical form of sculpture where images protrude from the background. Chumpi stones are ancient healing stones that are used by some shamanic practitioners as rites of passage and in their ceremonial healings. Q'ero shamans believe that each mountain has its own spirit, which is represented in each of these seven stones. These are magnificent high-relief, hand-carved, alabaster stones.  Each stone measures approximately 2-3 inches in size.

Each features an intricatelly detailed rendering of a traditional Peruvian motif carved into its surface. Use in ceremony or as artes on your altar cloth/mesa. Comes with a beautiful Mestana (each cloth is unique and will vary from the cloth shown), beaded Watana (tie), and rattle. Note: Due to the handmade nature of the rattles, Watana ties, and Mestana cloths they may vary in color or style from photo.

This cloth is discounted because it has some small stains and two minor snags in the fabric. It is in good working shape overall.

 Like the despacho cloth, the Q'ero use these plain-woven pieces to carry goods and food. Q'ero carrying clothes are woven in subtle, natural shades in a half design. Each one has a very fine drape and is woven from soft wool, likely alpaca or an alpaca blend.

Use it as your mesa cloth or for your personal sacred space, or as an overlay on your altar. These cloths may appear gently used as seen in photos. Woven in the high Andes of Peru.
