Native American Shamans have practiced energy medicine for thousands of years. Alberto Villoldo Ph.D., a medical anthropologist and psychologist, founded The Four Winds Society & The Light Body School after spending more than 30 years in the high Andes and the Amazon, training with master shamans. Dr. Villoldo subsequently established The Four Winds, and began certifying faculty members in the instruction and experiential learning of the modern day shaman.
Dr. Alberto Villoldo studied with a number of the Laika elders to distill the essence of their healing practices of energy medicine. He trained with the jungle medicine people and traveled and collected stories and healing practices from the Nazca region to Lake Titcaca, the Sea on Top of the World, which legends say the Inka were born.
Working with Don Antonio Alberto reconstructed the many threads of the Laika healing traditions to create a set of sacred technologies that transform the body, heal the soul, and can change the way we live and the way we die. They explain that we are surrounded by a Luminous Energy Field (LEF) whose source is located in infinity, a matrix that maintains the health and vibrancy of the physical body.
ANTHROPOLOGY / SHAMANISMA moving testament to interior ways of knowing.--Publishers WeeklyProfound and personal, cosmic and compassionate. . . . Memoir, Andean adventure, and quest for wisdom, the book is an even deeper, wiser, more moving tour of the extraordinary, with Villoldo a refreshing guide, frank amd engaging.--San Francisco ChronicleA narrative rich in myth, history, and metaphor.--BooklistIsland of the Sun recounts the American psychologist Alberto Villoldo's return to Peru in search of the Quechua Indian shaman Don Jicaram. The authors' earlier book, Dance of the Four Winds, described Villoldo's first initiation, under Don Jicaram, into the secrets of the Inca Medicine Wheel and the spiritual journey of the Four Winds. Villoldo had begun that journey in the South, "where one goes to confront and shed the past." With use of the powerful mind-altering plant ayahuasca, he had continued to the West, a direction also inhabited by fear and death. Now in Island of the Sun he prepares himself for the journey to the North, where lies the wisdom of the ancient Inca shamans. Traveling from Machu Picchu to the "Island of the Sun," a sacred site in Bolivia, Villoldo uncovers a profound secret about the journey to the East--the journey home. ALBERTO VILLOLDO, Ph.D., is also the author of Dance of the Four Winds, Millenium, Healing States, and Realms of Healing. ERIK JENDRESEN is a playwright and screenwriter.
