Ucayali Peruvian Amazon
Ucayali is an inland region in Peru. Located in the Amazon rainforest, its name is derived from the Ucayali River.
The Ucayali Region is bordered by the Brazilian state of Acre on the east; the region of Madre de Dios on the southeast; Cusco on the south; Junín, Pasco and Huánuco on the west; and Loreto on the north.>Loreto on the north.
The first people to live in this area, which extends along the length of the Ucayali river and its tributaries, were the Pano, in approximately 2,000 BC. Many indigenous communities live in the Amazon and do not renounce their ethnic customs and traditions, but instead share their invaluable culture with the world. With scenery bathed in powerful rivers, where the waterfalls are enormous veils that cover the mountain and transform into calm lakes, the diversity of flora and fauna in Ucayali continues to astonish scientists.
Mapacho is one of the most important plants in the lives of all tribes of the northwest Amazon. It plays a part in curative rituals, in important tribal ceremonies.
Mapacho is also used for entheogenic purposes by South American shamans. A complete bundle is approx. 15 long and 2 in diameter. Sometimes it is wrapped in bamboo and sometimes in manmade material to keep it protected. Must be over 21 years old to purchase.
