Male shamans, she concludes, sally forth into the spirit world to do individual combat with the sources of spiritual illness, whereas female shamans try to involve their patients more directly in their own healing.

In What Wants to be Known, Paul recounts the thrilling, often perilous adventures he embarks upon as he set out to increase his esoteric powers and fulfill the demands of two very different traditional healers.
