Rudraksha is a large evergreen broad-leaved tree whose seed is traditionally used to make malas (usually 108 beads in number). The term is used both for the berries themselves and as a term for the type of mala made from them. In this sense, a rudraksha is a rosary, used for repetitive prayer (Japa), a common aid to worship in Hinduism. Rudrakshas also used for the treatment of various diseases in traditional Indian medicine. Rudraksha malas have been used by Hindus (as well as Sikhs and Buddhists) as rosaries at least from the 10th century for meditation purposes and to sanctify the mind, body and soul. The word rudraksha is derived from Rudra (Shiva, the Hindu god of all living creatures) and aksha (eyes). One Hindu legend says that once Lord Shiva opened His eyes after a long period of yogic meditation, and because of extreme fulfillment, He shed a tear. This single tear from Shiva's eye grew into the rudraksha tree. The Five-Faced Rudraksha: The five-faced Rudraksha is blessed by Lord Shiva himself in the form of Kalagni Rudra. It affects all major chakras in bioplasmic body. It is said to control the five elements in the human body (fire, water, air, sky and Earth). Five faced Rudraksha bead is associated with the planet Jupiter and is therefore used to remove the malefic effects of Jupiter. It is the most common Rudraksha and is available in abundance. It affects all Major chakras. It is used for treating liver, fistula, piles, stress, blood pressure, mental disability, acidity, diabetics, stomach disorders, obesity, constipation, digestive problems, inflammability, cardiac problems, tooth-ache, heart problems, anger management, breast ailments, thighs, neurotic, vertebral column and mal adjustment problems etc. Dipping 3 beads of 5 faced beads in water after sunset and drinking the water early morning on empty stomach is very effective in controlling blood pressure. It is very effective in controlling sudden nervousness as well. One should hold a big five Mukhi rudraksha bead on the right palm for a few minutes to find the confidence lifting miraculously and the body warming up. It is known to regulate blood pressure. This bead bestows the pleasures of married life. It is said to give wealth, honor and status to the one who wears it. Five Mukhi Rudraksha destroys the five sins i.e. lust, anger, greed, attachment and ego. This bead wipes off all sorts of sins that accrue from sexual intercourse with a forbidden woman and from eating forbidden food. As Agni (fire) purifies the metals and similarly this Rudraksha rectifies all the vices and misdeeds of Jeeva and makes him pure and Jeeva gains the form of Pashupati i.e. the Lord of all creatures after becoming free from the animal instincts.
