These shiny one inch copper ore spheres are from Michigan's famous "Copper Country", the Keweenaw Peninsula. It has a long and complex history of mining and a tradition among miners of mineral collecting and specimen preservation which goes back more than a hundred years. The vast reserves of "red metal" in the Keweenaw Peninsula were first tapped some 5,000 years ago.
