Ethnomusicologist Jose Vitancio Humeres crafted this beautiful ceramic head-shaped rattle. The details are exquisite and the sound is delightful. A replica of a pre-Hispanic musical instrument and also a work of art. Made in Peru.
The Nazca culture was the archaeological culture that flourished from circa 100 BC to 800 AD on the southern coast of Peru, in the river valleys of the Rio Grande de Nazca drainage and the Ica Valley. This Pre-Columbian society is characterized by its polychrome pottery, painted with at least 12 distinct colors. The Nazca believed in powerful nature spirits who were thought to control most aspects of life. They visualized these nature spirits in the form of mythical beings, creatures having a combination of human and animal/bird/fish characteristics, and painted them onto their pottery. All the replica Nazca-style pottery that we carry is well researched, made with passion, effort, dedication, inspiration, with special attention and a deep identification of Peruvian cultures, to revalue the ancestral knowledge and technology of Pre-Columbian Peru.
