Tibetan tingshas are traditionally used for meditation, ritual ceremonies and as an elegant and powerful decorative element. In iconic depictions of celestial orchestras goddesses are often seen playing 'ting-sha' or hand cymbals. A quick tap of these two flower etched bells will generate a lovely chime, pleasing to all goddesses (and gods!) everywhere. All of our tingsha are hand cast with a traditional bell metal alloy to produce a powerful harmonic resonance. Each tingsha is handmade by Tibetans at the Lingtsang metal craft colony in India.
Our tingsha chimes are made of bronze. Bronze is primarily copper (more than 95%) with less than 5% tin. This makes it stronger and more durable than brass which is also primarily copper but with less than 5% zinc. Our brass chimes also include a minor mix of both tin and zinc with the primary base of copper. As bronze is harder it provides a stronger and more sustaining sound for the tingsha.
