The Inkarri (or Inkari) myth is one of the most famous legends of the Inca. When the Spanish conquistadores executed the last ruler of the Inca, Atahualpa, he vowed he would return to avenge his death. According to the legend, the Spaniards buried his body parts in several places around the kingdom: His head is said to rest under the Presidential Palace in Lima, his arms are said to be under the Waqaypata (Square of Tears) in Cuzco and his legs in Ayacucho. Buried under the earth he will grow until one day, when he will rise, take back his kingdom and restore harmony in the relationship between Pachamama (the earth) and her sons. The Q’ero weave many versions of the regenerating Inkarri into their mestanas.

Traditional mestana cloth with motifs representing the chili design, named for the red flower that grows in the Andean jungle, in alternating light and dark colors. The outer sections of this mestana cloth depicts, Inkarri, cultural hero and founder of the Inkas, in his human incarnation or his gradual regenerating forms. Touches of color bordering the central pattern call to the mountain spirits or Apus. The wide black stripes represent life-giving Pachamama, and the two sides of the cloth are joined in the middle with alpaca stitched to represent the mayu or River of the Sky or Milky Way. Finished with a traditional "eye stitch" which is said to have protective qualities.
Woven of alpaca and sheep wool, this cloth will hold your sacred mesa stones or display on your altar. Hand woven by the Q'ero of Peru.
