Tibetan tingshas are traditionally used for meditation, ritual ceremonies and as an elegant and powerful decorative element. In iconic depictions of celestial orchestras goddesses are often seen playing 'ting-sha' or hand cymbals. A quick tap of these two etched chimes generate a lovely tone, pleasing to all goddesses (and gods!) everywhere.
Our tingsha chimes are made of bronze.
Bronze is primarily copper (more than 95%) with less than 5% tin.
This makes it stronger and more durable than brass which is also primarily copper but with less than 5% zinc.
Our brass chimes also include a minor mix of both tin and zinc with the primary base of copper.
As bronze is harder it provides a stronger and more sustaining sound for the tingsha.
